I joined Joanna Waddell from The Gentle Co on 27th June for a writing nature meditation retreat in Lincolnshire.
I had never been on a writing retreat before so arrived with curiosity and delight to be spending a full day in nature with other like-minded women at the Kingfisher Cottage via the Red House in Barkston, Grantham. What a fabulous location.
Joanna facilitated an informative and joyful day of learning and connections. The day was broken down into parts, my neurodivergent mind liked that!
We were guided to consider writing a nature meditation through embodying the environment and regulating ourselves. Giving time to consider the importance of trauma informed language to settle our listeners into a meditative state.
We spent an hour immersed in nature to capture any of mother nature’s messages, to notice and feel into our senses. Finding creative ways to interact with the space we felt nature choose for us.
My sitting spot was in direct sunlight as the warmth of the sun soothes me immensely. I gravitated to the Dovecote where the Doves were taking shelter between journeys. I found myself curious about their interactions with one another and how safe they must find their home.
I also noticed my mind wandering up at the sky as the clouds drifted on by in all sorts of shapes of white clouds. The blue sky was beautiful above the clouds. As the day unfolded the sky evolved with bigger grey clouds forming together to create a heavier presence in the heat of the day.
We spent the day nourishing our minds and bodies with nature reflections, capturing the content we needed to create ideas for our guided nature meditations. We shared practices, exuberant conversations and lovely food together in such a wild and wonderful sanctuary.
I got all the content I needed, practiced a little with my buddy and then took my writing home with pure elation to bring it all together and recorded it for Joanna to give me feedback on.
After a few little adjustments I typed it up and recorded my guided nature meditation with some soothing bird sounds for a beautiful effect for you all to listen to and enjoy.
I hope you can find 25 minutes out of your day to listen to my free guided nature meditation, either sat or laid in your garden or anywhere that brings you comfort.
